Pregnancy by weeks: week 1

  • The baby develops to about half an inch tall, which is about the size of a kidney. The baby’s body parts become more developed and defined during this period. The baby’s limbs become longer with defined elbows, ankles, fingers, and toes. The baby’s face develops with the eyelid, nose, and lips becoming more focussed.

The signs of pregnancy appear on the mother during this time. Some changes happening include but is not limited to the following

  1. Fatigue

  4. More Virginal discharge
  5. Constipation
  6. Craving

What to do

  1. Pregnancy is very tiring. Ask your spouse, family, and friends for any help.
  2. It’s normal to gain weight even if it’s not showing on the body. Alternatively, you can lose weight due to constant nausea and vomit. However, it would be best if you got nutrients as you are eating for two.
  3. it’s essential to eat right, like fruits, healthy snacks, and smaller meals to keep your blood sugar level right and avoid dizziness
  4. Try to include more fiber in the diet so that bloating could be avoided.
  5. Drink  at least 10-12 glasses of water
  6. Sometimes the  retail therapy is just what the Doctor orders. It’s not showing in this stage of pregnancy, but your cloth might become a little tighter. It would be great to buy a few stretchy yoga pants or some comfortable lingerie.

What to avoid

  1. Any strenuous activities that can cause you to breathe at a high rate or put any pressure on the belly
  2. Avoid Caffeine, liquor, cigarette, sweeteners, and particular medication after consulting with the doctor
  3. Hot tubs and any chemical treatments to your hair
  4. Try to avoid fumes and chemicals which are involved in building a nursery or any house projects.

When to Consult a Doctor

  1. Mild cramps and minor discomforts are perfectly normal and no cause for concern. However, if the symptoms are severe, it’s better to consult the Doctor
  2. Pregnancy symptoms are inconsistent and can come and go with time. However, if there are no symptoms for a long time, it’s better to consult Doctor.
  3. If there is too much anxiety, consult a mental health professional.
  4. If there’s a fever, frequent urination, or pain in the body
